Accommodation

Port Charlotte Hotel, Islay

The Machrie Hotel and Golf Club, Islay
This is an extremely comfortable hotel with excellent bars and restaurant. The golf course is one of the best in Scotland and has an excellent reputation. The hotel has its' own planes and is only 1 mile from the island airport so they'll fly you and your friends in for an excellent round or two.

Harris Hotel, Tarbert, Harris
A Victorian hotel, with fascinating feel to it, old furniture and creaky stairs abound. Tremendous atmosphere and comfortable place. The village bar is the perfect place to meet the islanders.

Cuillin Hills Hotel, Portree, Skye
This is a lovely place offering excellent service and extremely high standards. There is a price to pay, but it's worth it.

Craigard Hotel, Barra
High above the harbour and overlooking Kismul Castle on its' island, comfortable and reasonably priced. One of only three hotels on the island and we feature them all.

Glencloy Farmhouse, Brodick, Arran
Good cooking and lovely location up the Glen from the main island village, but only a short walk to the pub, the golf course, the sea and if you're that way inclined, the shops :o)

Ardachy House Hotel, Near Bunnessan, Mull
No television, but if you can drag your eyes away from the views, you'll appreciate the simple comforts provided.

Argyll Arms Hotel, Bunessan, Mull
Friendly and very reasonably priced hotel only 6 miles from the ferry to Iona.

Seaview Guest House, Fionnphort, Mull
Lovely place friendly people, great views and only a short walk from the boat to Fingal's Cave and the ferry to Iona.

The Beverly Hotel, Edinburgh - ?
This is our fave in Edinburgh. Judy keeps a really nice hotel and is extremely welcoming to all our guests.

The Glebe House, North Berwick
This is one of THE nicest places around. In a lovely position within walking distance of golf and shops and harbour. What more can you ask?

Abbey Bank Guest House, Kelso - ?

Whitehouse Country House B&B, St. Boswells

Wellfield House, Duns - ?

Stobo Home Farm, Near Peebles

The Inn at Lathones, St. Andrews
The Inn is perfect for all seven courses in St. Andrews.

The Old Manor Hotel, Lundin Links
The Old Manor overlooks Lundin Links and is next door to Leven and Elie golf courses.

The Inn at Ardgour, Ardgour, Loch Linnhe - ?
Scotland's Inn of the Year 2000.

Glengarry Castle Hotel, Invergarry
Great food and real affordable luxury.

Ardgowan Lodge, Beauly
This is brilliant value. Great people, lovely place, super garden.

The Gordon Arms, The Square, Huntly
Probably the best accommodation in a wide area.

The Ferry Inn, Stromness
Situated beside the Ferry (yes really), this is the perfect place to start and finish your stay on Orkney and even makes a good base for exploring on short visits.

Number 10, Stirling
Only ten minutes walk from the castle and town centre, this is a very comfortable and reasonably priced base for exploring Stirling and the Trossachs.

Miscellaneous

Leith Walks
Walking tours of Edinburgh and surrounding areas from extremely knowledgable and entertaining guides.

SS Explorer
Restoration project of steam powered fishing trawler built in 1955 and used as a research vessel. Moored in Leith near the Royal Yacht Britannia and a much more interesting visit for those interested in the sea!

Celtic Trails Day Trips
Mythical and magical Scotland.

Crinan Canal
The waterway which links the Upper Clyde with the Atlantic. Just a good place to visit and an interesting thing to see.

Famous Scots
Of course, Scots invented or discovered almost everything and this site tells you who did the deed (things like Pennicillin, telephones and television).

Historic Scotland
Historic Scotland's web site is reasonably useful. The university site (see "famous people" above) is probably the best site.

Whitewave activities and holidays, Kilmuir, Skye
Fabby cooking, great people and good value. We like it. Also lots of water type things to do!

Travel Chat Lines

Scot Chat
The best and most informative chat and help line on Scotland and all things Scottish. There are thousands of entries on this site, so be sure to book mark it and keep coming back until you have read them all. The trouble is, there are always new ones being posted. You can clear off all the messages once you've read them all, pressing "Mark all Read". Very useful.

Electric Scotland
A chummy sort of site, with lots of daily postings, but probably not so much travel info as scotchat.
