Skye
of Curr Hotel is a magnificent country house set in 2.5 acres of mature
wooded grounds which support a wide variety of wildlife, including a
resident family of red squirrels. Welcoming and extremely comfortable,
the hotel overlooks the Cairngorm Mountains and Cromdale Hills and makes
the perfect base to explore the stunning surroundings and is ideally
situated for the Speyside whisky trail.
|
The
hotel is beautifully appointed throughout and retains most of the original
features with wood panelling and splendid open fireplaces. Crackling
log fires, comfortable and welcoming lounges and a candle-lit dining
room add to the warm and relaxed ambience.

The Skye
of Curr Hotel is a stunning country house steeped in history. It was
built in 1902 as a Victorian Hunting Lodge for the Lipton Tea & Grocery
family, and then sold to Major & Lady Scott Hartley famous for their
jam making and grocery supplies. Lady Scott, it is maintained, loved
the house so much that she never left it and her ghost can be heard
climbing the stairs from the cellar when the house is very still.
In their
time both families used the house as their Scottish country retreat
in the heart of the beautiful Highlands, taking advantage of the fine
shooting available in the winter and the breathtaking scenery for summer
holidays. Over the years, the property was improved with excellent examples
of original art deco features, including a striking green vitreolite
bathroom and unique fireplaces in every bedroom on the first floor.

ACCOMMODATION
There
is an excellent standard of accommodation throughout the hotel, and
each room, whether on the first or second floor, affords stunning views
of the surrounding countryside and hills.
The
rooms are en-suite and most on the first floor have feature fireplaces.

The Turret
Room ©Skye of Curr Hotel
|
An
impressive feature of the hotel is the turret room, which adjoins one
of the larger bedrooms on the first floor and offers amazing panoramic
views of the surrounding area. This really is the ideal place to relax
gently winding down with a book and glass of wine, maybe after a day
on the golf course, walking one of the many surrounding hills or forcing
yourself on a tour of some of the 70 odd distilleries in the area.
All
of the bedrooms have colour television, heating, hair dryers, tea and
coffee making facilities and an attention to detail which is second
to none.

Relaxing
in the lounge ©Skye of Curr Hotel
|
After
a hard day exploring the splendour of the Highlands, relax in either
one of the two bars or the welcoming, non-smoking lounge.
One
bar is located in the grounds of the hotel, and gives you a chance to
meet the locals and sample a couple of the local malts.
|
| |
The
hotel bar gives you the ideal opportunity to chat about your day with
fellow guests before sampling the excellent cuisine. In the summer we
open the french windows and take chairs out onto the rolling lawns,
allowing you to absorb the breathtaking views of the Cromdale Hills
and the famous Cairngorm Mountains, and if you are lucky, bask in the
warmth of the summer sun.
