The Four Seasons The Dunalastair is a year round destination. In the Winter, the warmth of the hospitality, the cosy snugs, the log fires and the spectacular Winter scenes, amid an all enveloping stillness and serenity gives the whole place a special charm. In the Spring, the fresh shoots and the burgeoning Rhododendron and forest trees, the lambs and the returning life are better viewed here than almost anywhere. In the Summer, the area is magnificent, with the grandeur of the perfect peak of Schiehallion and the clear waters of Loch Rannoch and Loch Tummel, Queen Victoria’s favourite, the long Scottish Summer evenings and the purple heatherclad hills in August. In Autumn, the area is ablaze with the warm fire of gold, copper and bronze as the leaves put on a special display as they move towards their Winter sleep. |

The Hotel and the Welcome The hotel was built by soldiers returned from the tragic Battle of Culloden. It became a coaching inn in the 1780’s and was converted into a hotel in the late 19th century. It has since been host to royalty, gentry and guests from all over the world. Since 1989, the Edwards Family have combined attention to detail and loving care, to carefully restore the hotel, combining the grand character of the past with modern comforts and standards. This will strike you immediately you enter the hotel, only surpassed by the 'immediate' greeting - the warmth of a roaring log fire in the stately entrance hall, and a welcome warmer than the 60 or so malt whiskies you can enjoy here. The wood paneling throughout most of the public areas and lounges, and the grand staircase with its imposing stained glass windows are just some of the outstanding features. Fascinating artifacts and memorabilia abound and are a great talking point |

Romance Sir Walter Scott and other Scottish writers have managed to take much of Scotland’s grim and often blood stained history and imbue it with unfading images of heroism and romance. Hollywood’s images of Brigadoon, Braveheart and Rob Roy have combined to make Scotland, and the Highlands in particular, romantically irresistible. Enhanced by Queen Victoria and her beloved Prince Albert, whose passion for the Highlands endorsed the nineteenth century vogue for all things Scottish - many come each year to discover the remarkable, authentic romantic experience that Scotland has to offer. At Dunalastair, the hospitality and atmosphere compliments this romantic highland charm and makes it a favourite for weddings and getaways. We particularly welcome overseas visitors who wish to choose Scotland for the ultimate wedding experience. |
