WHISKY TOURS

Machrie Hotel, Islay

Built approximately 250 years ago as a farmhouse, the Machrie became a hotel about the turn of the century. The Hotel has 16 bedrooms which include a mixture of both superior and standard accommodation to suit all requirements including a suite and a four poster bed.

There are also 2 and 3 bedroom lodges which can prove more suitable to family or other groups. These allow you the option of self catering or taking your meals in the Hotel restaurant.

The Machrie Hotel Golf Links is widely regarded as one of the best courses in Scotland. Typical of their type, the course runs along the dunes backing the seven mile beach called The Strand. A jinking layout with tough rough and several unsited shots forms a stiff challenge for the expert and casual golfer alike, but it is one which our regulars return to time and again.

Like many links courses (Carnoustie, home of the 1999 Open Championship springs to mind), shifting winds can pose different challenges each time you play. Stays at The Machrie can be combined with golf in a reduced price package, at certain times of the year.

Food plays a major part in the hotel and our menus have a Scottish flavour, complemented by the presence of dishes with an international essence to ensure a wide variety of choice. Islay Beef and Lamb are renowned for their flavour and tenderness, game is available from the island's estates and the waters around Islay provide lobster, crab, scallops and prawns.

We can also arrange trips pony trekking, fishing and stalking. The natural unspoiled beauty of Islay is never more apparent than at the Machrie and this, coupled with a warm and friendly service will ensure an enjoyable stay.

Dinner, Bed & Breakfast in the Hotel from £50. Lodges from £35 per night and from £195 per week.
